           Merle

         Mud sliding

Wyoming & South Dakota

                           Goodbye Yellowstone

The ride from yellowstone to Mount Rushmore  was a rough one but ,beautiful. Winding mountain roads,  8% down grades & lots of Motorcycles.

                  Art or vandalism

I looked for Mountain goats all over Yellowstone & didn't find any. Going around a comer in South Dakota a lone random mountain goat appears.

A quick trip to Mount Rushmore, wish we had more time. Really interesting how they mostly used dynamite to carve out the presidents faces.

Gas was a big issue. I have a bad habit of waiting till way past the low fuel light has been on a while. Well you can't do that why pulling a camper in the west. Interstate sign said gas this exit, it was closed for the season. Luckily Frannie made me get gas a lot & not wait to long.

Yellowstone

Day 1
So many things to say. 1st of all it is cold, it's been snowing, sleeting or raining all day.
We were determined to see cold or not.

Everybody had a must see list : Cara wanted to see bears & go hiking
Frannie wanted to see Old Faithful
Me :  I love the scenery & the animals.
There is so much to see & do it would take at least a week or two , or maybe more.
It is huge , I repeat huge takes a long time to drive from place to place. You never know when Bison will cross the road & any animal siting  will stall traffic for a long time.
It is so awesome that you can see these animal in the wild & there is place preserved just for them.
           West thumb geyser basin
Searched all day & finally found a bear, he was rolling around the ground & walking in circles.

                 Chipmunk

Day 2
We wanted to go white water rafting & to see some more of yellowstone.
So we got up early & left the camper at 7 & headed for Old Faithful. It goes off about every 90 mins & we need to be in Montana at 1 for our rafting trip. ( remember it can take forever to get anywhere here)
It was a miracle!  We pull in the parking lot 8:05 & the eruption goes off at 8:11.
The girls were not to impressed. It is really just looks like a bunch of steam going up in the air or smoke from a really big fire. You have to take it for the geological miracle it is. I thought it was really cool.

Out campsite, really small& no picnic table. I wouldn't recommend it but it's one of the only
Place to stay inside the park with electricity.

Rosie's hanging in there, she likes this weather better than Nevada's.

Since it didn't take long to see Old Faithful. We head to midway Geyser basin to hike  up to the top of this huge rock hill.

Pretty cool huh? We had to climb really high to get this picture. Cara literally ran to the top. While Frannie & I huffed & puffed our way up. Praying the who,e time we didn't slid to our deaths.

On our way to Montana we got to see a Mother & baby bison close up.

I guess ,when your hungry your hungry.

Frannie is counting down the states she's been to ( not just this trip) . We think Montana makes 37.
Dressed in her wet suit, it is way to cold.
White water rafting was so much fun. I did not tip the boat or fall out. We did have to get in the boat boat when our guide shouted the command., Going over a class 4 section.
I have pics, I will post them later.
           More Bison
